Thanks to some cash grants from Uncle Sam, the city of Knoxville is
aiming to diagnose the environmental problems of certain industrial
sites near downtown. The city will host a public meeting at 6 p.m. tonight in connection
with $400,000 worth of grants from the Environmental Protection Agency.
The grants are to be used for petroleum site assessments and hazardous
material site assessments. Under the city's initiative, willing property owners in the Downtown
North I-275 Redevelopment area will have the opportunity for such
assessments to be performed on their sites.
