The effects of environmental contamination on a property are
many. There is the direct effect on basic safety, and there is the
tangential effect of reducing the property's value. Even the name of
these places, brownfields, sounds negative. In an effort to
rehabilitate these areas, the city of Wilmington is implementing a
brownfields program to assess which places are most in need of
rehabilitation and to assist property owners in determining what their
next steps should be.
